Goodbye to....

Post by Jockathan » Mon Nov 29, 2010 6:54 am

We used to have a RIP thread and it seems nice to note the passing of some people.

Today's entry is Leslie Nielsen with a good innings of 84.

Rushden and Diamonds goalkeeper Dale Roberts has died suddenly at the age of 24.

He was found at his home in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, on Tuesday.

It is not known how he died, although police have said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The former Sunderland and Middlesbrough trainee, who first signed professional terms with Nottingham Forest, died before Tuesday’s FA Trophy second-round replay against Eastwood, one of his former clubs.

The game was postponed as a result.

"Our thoughts and prayers at this time go to his parents, family and friends," said Diamonds chairman Gary Calder.

An Eastwood statement added: "He was only with us a short time but made a big impression.

"All at Eastwood Town send their sincere condolences to Dale's family, friends and colleagues."

Durham-born Roberts was an England C international and also spent time on loan at Alfreton.

He joined Diamonds in January 2009 after two loan spells at the club, playing 88 league games for the Conference National side.

Oscar-nominated British actor Pete Postlethwaite has died at the age of 64, a spokesman has announced.

Journalist and friend Andrew Richardson said the actor, who was appointed OBE in 2004, died peacefully in hospital in Shropshire after a lengthy illness.

In 1994, he was nominated for an Oscar for In The Name of the Father.

Gerry Rafferty

The Scottish singer who rose to fame in the 1970s with hits like "Baker Street" and "Stuck in the Middle With You," has died in London of complications from liver failure, according to news reports. He was 63.
"Baker Street," released in 1978, was perhaps his biggest hit. But he also is remembered for "Stuck in the Middle With You," released in 1972 by his band Steelers Wheel. That song enjoyed a revival in 1992 when Quentin Tarantino used it on the soundtrack to hit film Reservoir Dogs.

Great artist and I had a few albums

RIP

Here's an interesting obituary:

I love the lyrics to both songs you mention. I'm hoping to write some poetry in this upcoming difficult finanical year and these songs rang some bells within me.

The last of the great Delta Blues men died on Monday: Pinetop Perkins (97)

I saw this pianist several times when he was with Muddy Waters.

Here he is playing two years ago at 95...

Very sad to hear about the demise of Sir Henry Cooper, he really was an absolute gentleman.

He lived up the road from me in Wembley, where he had a greengrocers in the High Road. Me and my brothers were always out on the green playing football, Henry would often walk past with his twin brother George and they would join in with us for a game. They'd play for ages too, they genuinely enjoyed themselves.

Top bloke and will be sadly missed.

One of the few celebrities or sportsmen known throughout the world by his single Christian name.
All European golfers owe him so much. Very very sad.
RIP Genius.

Gil Scott Heron - Poet/song writer. 62.

The Grandfather of Rap, probably most famous for his 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised'

I've got my Italian Inter supporting mate over tonight for La Coppa Italia. He's a fan of Rap too and my PC goes through all sorts of jiving' when he's over. I'd be sure to get some Heron on the play list. :)
