I will have a look at it at some stage. I have looked at a few before but your (old) opening moves aren’t very common so didn’t help me much.

I should be good for a game at 6pm if that’s any good for you?

Yeah, pretty much due to be ready by then, send me an invite once you’ve decided which new opening you’re going to try! ;-)

I know I’m bringing my rook pawns out early. I’m getting fooked off with your bishop pinning down my queen recently. That’ll stop it! :)

Got a game scheduled against my mate tomorrow, first for 3 weeks. Played him 4 times for 4 wins and the first 3 were before I’d played anyone else on the app. In that time I’ve played 59 other games, winning 39 of them. I’ll be dissapointed if I don’t blow him off the board! :)

I was disappointed but only because we had to give up after 6 moves due to constant tech issues at his end.

Up for an afternoon game, let me know preferred time, just planning my schedule!

You’ve certainly ‘blown’ me a few times, it wasn’t enjoyable! :)

I think I’m happy to update the score today!

H won the third series 10.5-7.5, giving me my best score to date.

But......I have took a two-nil lead in the fourth series after a couple of (rare) lackluster performances from the H-Man!

Hopefully getting all this week's mistakes out of the way in one go! *,

Credit where it's due though, you're on an upward trajectory in terms of score (5.5, then 7 then 7.5) and games won (5, then 6 then 7). The one line I managed to hold this time was winning distance which has been 5 followed by 3 and 3 again. I'll be doing well to finish +3 this time, coming back from 2 games down.

Trust me, if you're ever on the other side of one it's pretty much the same feeling but a positive one!

I can imagine. Feels like a win to you and a loss to me.

I do remember winning one game against you where I was so far behind, but somehow won it. It felt like it should’ve been worth two points (which it theoretically was I suppose).

That might be the one where I blithely ignored the risk of you getting a pawn promoted and didn't leave my king an out. I thought I'd get mate before you could do it but I was wrong! :>

I can’t remember the ins and outs of the match. I know I didn’t have much of a chance at one stage, but somehow won it. You may be right. Think it was possibly our first series.

Having said that, I think I might have won from nowhere when you had your own king boxed in?

Which is what you said! *,

I’ve just had two games on chess24 against random opponents. They both beat me within three minutes. *,

I think we’re at the very bottom of the chess ladder!

{8 Real people I assume, rather than a computer? Any check to see if they're a reasonable match for you or could they be any ability from novice to grandmaster?

Yeah a real person. I’ve got a rating on there and they match people with a similar rating to you. Mine’s obviously far too high because the people I’ve played are well beyond me.

The H-Man should be in hospital ........He’s took one hell of a beating this week!! :)

I’ve took a 9-4 lead in the fourth series and am hovering around the 1.02 mark to win my first ever race to ten. Not only has H helped me to improve my game, he’s also letting me win matches that he’s totally dominating!

It should be 7-6 to either one of us really, but a few mistakes by H, and possibly some good play by me has seen me take an almost unbeatable lead. If I do happen to lose this one, I’m quitting for good! :)

Definitely lost a couple of games I should've won (not least the one where I missed an opportunity for checkmate before spectacularly self combusting) and should really have won tonight so maybe 7-6 would be a fairer reflection. No argument though that your game has improved and you're doing better than me at eliminating unforced errors.

The big question is whether I've reached my limit and you're still on an upward trajectory. The next series will give us a better idea in that respect.

I’d hope future games are 10-8 or 10-9. I kind of feel they are where we are at in terms of ability against each other.

Early on you were 1/2 in terms of odds for winning each game. It’s probably 10/11 each of us now.

You have me on my back foot fairly early in most games. For some reason you’re not quite seeing them all out.

After a couple of wins by me to put a slightly more respectable gloss on the scoreline, Kenbo lands the victory he needed to deservedly clinch the series 10 - 6.

I don’t think that score flatters him based on our respective performance over those 16 games but I’d like to think it’s not an indication of the future. Hopefully his assessment that every game is close to a coin toss is nearer the mark!

Let’s see what the next series brings (hopefully less silly errors on my part).

As the next series gets underway I was sharing my new, more patient, philosophy with Kenbo, as encompassed in a corny joke that this song takes a long time to tell!

Quick stat blitz as I've just brought the spreadsheet up to date (yes, I record our results in a spreadsheet, what of it)! :)

We're currently part way through the 5th series (1st to win 10 games). The current score in terms of series is 3-1 to me. I won the 1st 3 10.5-5.5, 10-7 and 10.5-7.5 with Kenbo taking the last one 10-6. I'm leading the current series 5.5-3.5 but am fortunate to be doing so, with Kenners very much the form horse (or should that be form knight).

My record as white is 19 wins, 3 draws and 14 defeats and as black it's 21 wins, 2 draws and 17 defeats giving an overall record of 40 wins for me, 5 draws and 31 wins for Kenbo.

In terms of opening move, Kenbo is very much an E4 (or pawn to king 4) man, having played that opening 33 times, winning 14 of them, drawing 2 and losing 17. He's played knight to F3 6 times with 3 wins each and D4 once, winning.

I like to mix things up a bit more, having played 6 different opening moves. I've played knight to F3 11 times winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 6. I've played D4 8 times with a 5-1-2 record, G3 7 times (6-1), C4 5 times (2-1-2), E4 4 times (1-3) and B3 once (1-0).

Average length of game is 78.5 moves. It's been around that mark in every series except the 2nd one where it shot up to 84.5 for some reason! It's slightly lower when I play white than when Kenbo does (76.4 v 80.4)

On average, games won by me last for 74.7 moves (68.1 as white and 78.9 as black). For Kenbo the numbers are 85.1 overall (86.6 as white and 83.9 as black).

I’ve got a 100% winning average on D4 then. I’m retiring that move (will have to check where D4 is first)! *, just checked, it’s queen pawn forward two squares, it must’ve been an error on my behalf! :lol

Some good stats there, although you are showing us what a nerd you are! I’m trying to make chess a bit more manly, you aren’t helping the cause! :lol
