Great choice, Col :thumbs (Maybe it describes your current mood ;-) ;-) )

I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan (even though I'm not really the drummer) and this is the one of the best Rick Wright/Dave Gilmour masterpieces:

Not sure if anyone is familiar with this song but there's a fun quiz to follow, with a free bet up for grabs!

Ok, now I've correctly posted the video, here's the challenge!

In the opening line of the song, Hugh Cornwell is basically bemoaning not having enough money to buy a particular item

I’ve spent 40 years not knowing what he says and filling my own "proxy" words when I sing the song in my head, knowing them not to be right.

On googling the correct lyrics I had to search again to see what they actually meant! Some of you may be familiar with the term but I wasn't.

The first person to correctly guess what I've been singing instead for the last 40 years wins a £10 free bet. If it wins, you have the choice of receiving the winnings via paypal, me donating them to charity, or to Col for the competition prize pot.

I'm pretty confident no-one will get this right and go on to pick a winner! ;-)

You're on the right lines, in the sense that it's as random and far wide of the mark than that! :lol

Haven't inserted my own innuendo for a little while now, Harry :lol . [Not forgetting the old one about Italian suppositories, of course :> ].

I believe a Morris Thousand is a car or a van.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=morri ... 66&bih=626

Essentially the actual lyric is bemoaning his inability to afford even an old banger.

I must admit, on first seeing the term "Morry Thou" I assumed, knowing the Stranglers, it was some sort of obscenity in Latin! :>

My own best guess was at the actual lyric is some way off, more in the territory of Col's "married cow".

I'll put you out of your misery after the final whistle in the later CL games, until then that tenner remains on offer.

{8 Can't believe this but I set the same challenge to one of my mates and it's cost me a bottle of wine.

Not only did he guess right but it was what he actually used to think the lyric was when he was younger! At least I've never though it really was the lyric.

One small clue and then I'll be back with the answer.

You might see what I thought it was in the same place that you'd see Col's guess above (a married cow), especially if you were in the right country!

Ok, I'll put you out of your misery!

For years, I've had to sing "Didn't have the money round to buy a Maori fowl"! :lol

It always amused me to think what the Stranglers would want with a chicken from New Zealand. Bizarrely, there is a bird called the Weka which is known as the Maori hen.

There are some great lyrics in early Stranglers songs, especially when you were a 12 year old boy just discovering the joys of Punk.

London Lady's "making love to the Mersey Tunnel with a sausage, have you ever been to Liverpool?" never fails to raise a smile.
