Film thread (and the odd book)

Post by kenbo » Mon Dec 26, 2016 8:13 pm

What have you been watching lately? I don't want any Ben-Hur or Spartacus epics from the dinosaurs on here! ;-)

Dallas Buyer Club - I've got to give this a solid 8 out of 10. Matthew Mcconaughey slimmed down to nine and a half stone to play a HIV/AIDS suffering, hard drinking, drug taking, gambling, rodeo cowboy bigot, with just thirty days to live. He didn't take the news too well when he was first diagnosed, but he eventually got to grips with it, and learned all about it. He also had a good go at profiting from it.

Well worth a watch.

You're not even fifty yet, Linny and you're a dinosaur!!!

Good films, and black and white, don't go together imo!

I've watched one black and white film in my adult years, and that was 12 Angry Men. A few people said I should give it a go, so I did. I enjoyed it, but thought it would be better if it were remade in colour, with some modern actors.

I watched the very first Bourne film and didn't bother with any more. I'm not an espionage fan, I don't even bother with Bond.

I got a free Sky Store voucher from Sky, so I watched The Guv'nor on Xmas Eve, about Lenny Mclean. It was pretty crap tbh.

I read modern 'fictional' (mainly) crime.

We can't all like the same thing.

I do like Steptoe.

I watched Raging Bull once, and that was at least twenty years ago. Quite brutal from what I remember, but it didn't really 'wow' me.

I've read all the 'gangster' books. They were all good.

I've got loads of films I've watched numerous times, but I'd just about plump for The Usual Suspects as my fav.

FBDO is good, that's 30 years old though!!!

Fenner's lands the 1.01. It was just five hours earlier than I expected!

They're still on TV most days, Linny. They've stood the test of time pretty well.

I do have a Kodi box. It's fantastic for films and box sets, but useless for watching live sport (I could never find a stream that didn't buffer).
