Electric Bike

Post by Col » Sun Mar 20, 2016 8:24 pm

Anybody have one.
Been thinking about getting an electric folding bike that I can use, one that I can stick in the boot of my car when I need to.
I got the idea the other day as I walked the three mile to pick up my car from the garage that I use. {:(
Thought it would be especially handy for when we go touring in the caravan.

Anybody know anything about them, recommendations, bad stories.

Col

I bought one seven to eight years ago to use when away with my motorhome. Never had a problem with it, battery still holds its charge as if it was new.

Only draw back is that is quite heavy when folding away, OK if you remove the battery first, this only takes a minute.

The make of mine is a Synergie (chinese made) they have improved a lot and dropped in price since I bought mine.
I think mine cost about £450.

Cheers Alan
The ones I've been looking at seem to be more expensive than that.
Can't find anything on the Synergie, seems they don't make them anymore.

Are you thinking of entering the Tour de France, Col? I hear they all have electric motors hidden in their bike frames.

My friend has one but I've never used one, they definitely are heavy but on the whole I think they are good and might be just what you need:-) They are bloody expensive though! I've heard you can retro fit an electric motor to your bike but this would require a bit more research(a lot cheaper though) ebay sell those "kits"

Just realised I never replied to this, This is the bike I eventually ended up with, and I have to say I'm very impressed.
You can go out in any weather safe in the knowledge that your not going to struggle back.
It's a 20inch folding bike and has a range of 35 miles. I believe at one time they came with a throttle, but that's not legal now, so you have to pedal at all times.
You have a three power setting which determines how much effort you want to put into pedalling.

It can get embarrassing sometimes when you have to ring your bell to let some lycra clad racer know that you want past. :lol

looks like an updated version of my one.

I have the throttle on my one, which means no pedalling when going uphill, full throttle and have a rest.
