Just enjoyed watching the first part of "Rock and Roll America" on BBC4. Well worth catching if you're into the history of rock music.

Hard to imagine the impact the music had as it seems relatively tame to us now but makes sense when you see it in the context of the times.

Good documentary about 10cc on BBC 4 now. No doubt be on the Iplayer if that's how you roll, repeated at 1:30 if you're a night owl or have a recorder of some sort.

Great band, with an interesting story too. Started the famous Strawberry Studios in Stockport which I was lucky enough to spend some time in before it closed.

I guess we could delete the word "tonight" from the thread now as almost everything is available on demand these days! {8

I've capped a slightly odd day by watching the recent "Quay Sessions" live performance by the band James on the I-Player. It seems odd to think that, 30 or so years ago, they were my absolute favourite band but now I'm just thinking "that's ok, I suppose".

This afternoon I was listening to early Stone Roses live performances and demos on cassette (talk about Back to the Future) and a live performance by American band 10,000 Maniacs on a bootleg CD, all from the mid 80s.

It just seems weird to immerse myself in that stuff and think it was over half a lifetime ago. I'm not big on nostalgia really but it's made me think I should focus on the present a bit more before I end up around 75 wondering where the last 25 years went (by which time, given the pace of technological developments, I'll either be a hologram or capable of time travel)!

Anyway, I'm not usually one for waffling on about "life etc." on here but just thought I'd share my current mood for some reason.

I'm usually the opposite of that harry.
A lot of music just passed me by, as I was stuck in a my kind of music scene

I heard some Stone roses the other week, and I was never a fan. The rest of the day was spent on youtube thinking, fcuk they were quite good. :)

They were ok Col, played some great gigs in smaller venues then decided everything had to be a bigger and bigger event culminating in Spike Island by which time I'd baled out. The remastered version of the debut album is worth having (the original pressing sounded terrible). I've no interest in seeing them live now they've reformed though did enjoy watching the "Made of Stone" film.

When I say "focus on the present" I don't mean in terms of modern day music, that would be dreadful! :)

I just got jolted by the sense of how quickly the time had gone since then and it put me into a reflective mood. Believe it or not, I'd probably hardly ever had a bet at that point in time! {8

Couldn't agree more. Watching last night made me realise how much I had fallen for the lies and spin over the years.
Like you I was shocked to start with. Then anger kicked in thinking about what those families have been (put) through.
Selfish but I just hope me and mine never have to go through anything like that

I quite like Chris Evans, but all he's done is make us realise how good Jeremy, James and Richard made Top Gear

Did you watch the Wogan tribute tonight.
Always liked Terry, but as he was always a few years older than my age group, never really appreciated how good he was.

When Dermot O'leary took over from him on children in need, he asked how much rehearsal time he would get.
He was told, Terry didn't have any rehearsal, he just turned up. :)

Who can forget having an edge when you were betting on Eurovision, just because Terrry knew who would vote for who.

The Legend that was Terry Wogan. :clap

Just watching Scotland 78: A Love Story on the iPlayer.

Decent documentary about Scotland's World Cup exploits when they, much to everyone's surprise, didn't come home from Argentina with the World Cup trophy! :)

He'd be great, Col, but no chance :). . Will have to be a pro-EU female, preferably lesbian and preferably Black or Asian ;-) . Libel prevents me suggesting a specific candidate.

I can't stand the programme any more - much prefer Andrew Neil's This Week that follows it.

Based on this Harry Enfield would be a good choice:

To be precise. this was on TV last night, but with the advent of IPlayer etc. everything is on TV every night these days! {8

Anyway, I watched this and I'd say it's worth a watch if you're so inclined. It crams a lot into an hour and covers trying to beat the bookies and the subject of problem gambling. It was better than I expected.

No spoilers, but there's a risk that Fenners will take a greater interest in tennis betting if he watches this.
